Riverton ice rink likely to open next week

(Riverton, WY) – Due to unforeseen circumstances, “Tonkinfellar Plaza” in Riverton is still not open for ice skating. R Recreation shared today, December 30th that they are hoping to officially open on Friday, January 8th.

Earlier in December, the ice base had been damaged causing the initial delay. City employees then had to start the process over. A few days of warmer weather, mixed with the holidays have continued to delay the process, according to R Recreation.

Unfortunately, the holiday break for schools will be over. However, they are currently planning to be open on Fridays from 3:00 – 8:00 pm, Saturdays from 1:00 – 8:00 pm, and Sundays from 1:00 – 5:00 pm.

As a reminder, a few other protocols will be in place this season due to COVID:

    • Skaters will not be allowed in the Red Shed due to Covid precautions (skates will be rented through the window) so dress warm!
    • There will be a limit to 50 skaters on the rink.
    • We ask that you please stay home if you are not feeling well.

You can find the latest rink updates on the R Recreation Facebook page. County 10 will also share information as it is released.

If the skating bug is hitting you hard right now and you can’t wait to get your skating legs back for the triple salchow you planned to crush on the ice this year – the Lander ice rink is open. Click here to read our earlier post.
