    RHS speech, debate team takes third place at first in-person competition in over a year

    (Riverton, WY) – After a year of virtual competitions, the Riverton High School (RHS) Speech and Debate team is back to in-person competitions and ready for the 2021-2022 season.

    They attended their first competition last weekend at Casper Community College, ultimately taking home 3rd overall in 3A, and 1st among the 3A Wyoming teams.

    All students worked hard, and a good portion of the team is new at their events.

    Among the Varsity winners were Kaia Tippets winning 2nd in Drama Interpretation, 2nd in Impromptu, and 4th in Extemporaneous Speaking.

    Shannyn Kreitzer, another Varsity student, won 3rd in Dramatic Interpretation.

    RHS had several Novice winners, including Ayana Mejorado, who took 1st place in Novice Congressional Debate.

    MJ Nguyen and Riley Walker placed 1st in Cross Examination Debate, with MJ Nguyen taking Top Speaker in Novice Cross Examination Debate.

    Hunter McOmie and Gabe Person placed 3rd in Cross Examination Debate.

    The Duo teams took the top 3 places in their events, with Cody Herd and Afton Powell placing 1st, Kylie Downey and Ashtin Griffin placing 2nd, and Addison England & Adrianna Potter placing 3rd.

    Other Novice winners include Riley Walker placing 2nd and Taylee Olson placing 3rd in Humorous Interpretation. 

    TJ Hancock took home a 5th place award in Novice Impromptu, and Noah Smith took home 1st place in Dramatic Interpretation.

    The team travels next on November 19th and 20th to Rock Springs.
