Resolution 1239 temporarily pulled from Lander City Council agenda

(Lander, WY) – Mayor Monte Richardson announced today, April 7th that Resolution 1239 Non-Discrimination In Lander, has been pulled from the April 12, 2022, Lander City Council agenda.

The Mayor would like to take more time to share information with the community about the intent and impact of the Resolution, which simply reflects the existing equal rights guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution and existing law. The reason cited is that community response has been divisive, and with misinformation and misinterpretation of the Resolution.

“The best way forward is to pause on the Resolution, and focus on educating each other about unlawful discrimination, as defined by State and Federal statutes. That’s what the intent of the Resolution is, to educate the public on following established laws and to affirm that Lander desires to be a welcoming and inclusive town. It’s unfortunate that some in the community have misinterpreted that intent,” stated Mayor Monte Richardson.
