Rendezvous Elementary in Riverton receives national honor

Rendezvous Elementary educators have committed the past three years to improve student learning with the goal of becoming a Model Professional Learning Community (PLC) school. This month, their sustained success in raising student achievement gained them the Model PLC national recognition.

Principal Karly Ward said, “We are honored to receive this recognition. It is evidence of living our mission of working hard and loving to learn.”

There are only about 200 schools and districts in the US and Canada who have received this honor, according to PLC manager Solution Tree.

To become a Model PLC school, educators must commit to the PLC concepts: focus on learning, build a collaborative culture, and create a results orientation; have a three-year implementation of those concepts, and provide evidence of improved student learning. Once there are results, the school submits an application explaining their practices, structures and culture to the PLC Review Committee.

A few key points from the three-year “Rendezvous PLC Journey” (full data can be found here):

      • 2016-2017 (year 1 of PLC concepts): They moved up from 20 points below the state average across all content areas to within 5% – 10% points of the state average.
      • 2017-2018 (year 2 of PLC concepts): More rigorous statewide testing was introduced and Rendezvous continued to show growth. They even exceeded the state average in one area.
      • 2018-2019 (year 3 of PLC concepts): They had the highest achievement scores on record and moved the school from “partially meeting expectations” to “meeting expectations” in achievement and equity indicators and “exceeding expectations” in growth indicators set by the state.

Rendezvous Elementary shared, “Rendezvous is celebrating PLC success, but not stopping. Through PLC coaching, staff revised its mission statement, added a vision statement, and drafted collected commitments. We recognize this work is never done and that learning for all is attainable for us.”

Rendezvous Elementary is the first school in Riverton to receive this recognition and the second in Fremont County. You may remember our earlier post with Lander Valley High School’s Model PLC announcement.
