    Red Canyon clocked in another 80+ mph wind; snow, gusty winds projected for Lander Foothills, Wind River Basin

    (Fremont County, WY) – It has been a windy week here in Fremont County, with a high wind warning that stayed in effect until 11:00 PM last night.

    After initial reports of 66 mph gusts in the Red Canyon – South Pass area yesterday afternoon, the National Weather Service (NWS) in Riverton later released the peak winds for the 24 hour period later that evening, where 82 mph winds were recorded in the same area.

    Lander and Jeffrey City saw winds reach the upper 50’s, while Shoshoni, Riverton, and Dubois clocked in gusts in the upper 40’s.

    Snow and gusty winds are projected to continue in the Wind River Basin and Lander Foothills, with accumulations of 0.5 to 1 inch.

    North and northwest winds gusting 25 to 35 mph may also lead to areas of blowing snow.
