The Town of Dubois 2020 Electronic Read Water Meters Project would allow the Town of Dubois operators to discover water losses quickly, thereby conserving water. Water meters are known to register less usage as they get older. With automatic readers, meters are read more frequently and with increased accuracy. Any meter tampering is automatically detected, reducing operating costs, which eliminates keypad and recording errors incurred during manual reading and data entry. Water line leaks are detected sooner so repairs can be made faster. Remote shut-off valves can be installed to automatically cut off water upon leak location improving environmental protection as well as revenue. Automatic readers promote conservation, while increasing information about usage and saving money. Throughout the last 10 years, the Town of Dubois has been budgeting and upgrading 25 year old water meters to ECR resulting in more accurate water usage recording; helping to ensure the tiered rate structure is sufficient for the continued maintenance of the public water system and to provide funding for projects identified in a Level II Water Study conducted in 2003. Town of Dubois staff will install the meters and radio units.

The Town of Dubois intends to use funds from the Wyoming Drinking Water State Revolving Loan Fund administered by the Wyoming Office of State Lands and Investments. Based on current estimates, the Town of Dubois plans to borrow $175,000.00 from the Wyoming Drinking Water State Revolving Loan Fund. The loan will be repaid from the Town of Dubois Water and Sewer Enterprise Funds. There is no anticipated rate increase for this project. The “green” loan will have zero interest during the term of the loan.

The Town of Dubois is aware of and accepts the fact that they will be responsible for any required mitigative actions associated with and including storm water runoff, erosion control, archeological/historic artifacts, and air quality concerns. These will be part of the standard State Revolving Funds Program contract conditions.

A preliminary plan of improvements and estimates can be reviewed at Town Hall. Contact Mayor Meyer at (307) 455-2503.
