Powell Couple Involved in Monday Morning Murder-Suicide
(Powell, Wyo.) – According to a press release issued by the Park County Sheriff’s Office minutes ago, Park County Sheriff’s Deputies are continuing to investigate a murder-suicide that occurred this morning at 818 Jonathon Road. The call came in at 4:30 AM this morning reporting an unknown emergency. An ambulance from Powell Valley Hospital was immediately sent to the residence.
Deputies arrived on scene and discovered two victims, one male, and one female, both suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. The female, Mary Ann Bier, age 64, had a gunshot wound to the back of the head and the male, John Charles Bright, age 74, had a gunshot wound to the right temple. Both victims were transported to Powell Valley Hospital where they died of their wounds.
An investigation into the incident revealed that the victims, although not married, were involved in a long-time, live-in relationship. However, recently the relationship had soured and when Bright discovered Bier’s intent to leave him, he became despondent and shot her before turning the gun on himself.
The bodies have been turned over to the Park County Coroner.
