Photos: 12 local Veterans received Quilts of Valor on Saturday

(Riverton, WY) – On Saturday afternoon, the local Quilts of Valor Foundation chapter, the Sheep Camp Quilters, presented 12 Veterans with a handmade quilt at the Reach Foundation in Riverton.

The goals are to thank the Veteran for their service and to welcome the Veteran home, shared our local chapter during the presentation.

Each Veteran was introduced by Herb Wilcox and welcomed to the front where they were draped in a quilt they selected made by members of the Sheep Camp Quilters.

Veterans who received quilts yesterday include: Steve Bang, Dennis Burden, Mike Harvey, Albert Kenyon, Todd Long, John Moss, Charles Murray, Antonio Pingree, Lon Poston, Nick Schafer, Terry Settlemire and Doug Walker.

The Sheep Camp Quilters consist of about a dozen volunteers who make every quilt by hand. They have been honoring local Veterans in the Lander and Riverton areas for over a decade and have given out over 1,000 quilts.

Annually, the group raffles a quilt to help pay for supplies and the space to hold the ceremonies. Donations can also be made online to the Sheep Camp Quilters through the QOV Foundation here.

If you are a local Veteran or know one that has not received a quilt, email [email protected].
