    Pedestrian on roadway killed on I-80 Monday night

    (Uinta County, WY) – A pedestrian lying in the middle of the road was struck by a vehicle traveling on I-80/US-189 late Monday night, according to a preliminary report issued by the Wyoming Highway Patrol (WHP) on Wednesday March 16th.

    The deceased has been identified as 30-year-old Texas resident Cheyenne Thacker.

    According to the report, a vehicle was eastbound on I-80 in the right lane when at approximately milepost 8.37, it came upon something lying in the road.

    As the vehicle approached, the driver discerned the item in the road was a person lying on the centerline, with their head facing south.

    In an effort to preserve life, the driver swerved to the left to avoid striking the individual, but was unable.

    The vehicle struck the individual, causing fatal injuries.

    Evidence at the scene indicated the pedestrian exited a semi-tractor trailer that was parked nearby and made her way, alone, to where she was struck by the vehicle.

    The report indicates a possible medical condition is being looked into as a contributing factor.

    There have been 16 fatalities on Wyoming’s roadways in 2022, compared to 18 in 2021, 13 in 2020, and 31 in 2019 to date.
