Parties agree upon potential alternate Via Ferrata location

(Lander, WY) – Stakeholders met on November 10th for the second Via Ferrata discussion where they were tasked to bring alternate routes to the table.

The sandstone buttress at the mouth of Sinks Canyon was overall the favored compromise location for both the proponents and opponents.

This area is on State Parks land that is already utilized by climbers.

No official decisions were made at the November 10th meeting. Proponents plan to have a detailed proposal for the sandstone buttress location at the next scheduled meeting, December 14th.

When an initial location for the Via Ferrata is tentatively agreed upon, Wyoming State Parks will again reach out to the public for input and will solicit comments from individuals and other interest groups.

When a final route is determined, Wyoming State Parks will consult tribal governments and any other necessary federal or state agencies.
