Over 800 veterans honored in Lander Saturday

The 2nd annual Wreaths Across America Ceremony in Lander took place at 12:00 pm today, December 19th. Community members, veterans, law enforcement officers, firefighters, and others gathered to remember and honor the veterans buried at Mount Hope Cemetery with a wreath-laying ceremony.

Lander Valley High School junior Taylor Romans brought this ceremony to Lander for the first time last year. She raised enough funds this year, and some for 2021, to lay a wreath on all 850 veteran graves at Mount Hope.

Taylor also led today’s ceremony. The guest speaker was local veteran 1st Sgt Michael Clancy. He has served over 25 years in the National Guard and Army Reserves, and recently returned from deployment.

As the wreath-laying ceremony commenced, everyone dispersed into the many sections of the cemetery. Names of the veterans could be heard throughout as the wreaths were placed and they were thanked for their service.

The full ceremony can be viewed in the video shared below.
