On January 25th, 2020, Fremont County residents gathered at Riverton’s City Park in response to President Trump’s declaration of January 22nd as the “National Sanctity of Human Life Day.” Men, women, and children of all ages stood along the intersection of Federal Boulevard and Main Street to stand for the lives of preborn children.
“The presidential proclamation is a powerful counterpoint to the over 62 million children that have been aborted since state laws against abortion were struck down by the U.S. Supreme Court’s 1973 decision in Roe vs. Wade,” shared event attendee Karl Falken.
President Trump’s proclamation states, “As a Nation, we must remain steadfastly dedicated to the profound truth that all life is a gift from God, who endows every person with immeasurable worth and potential. … On National Sanctity of Human Life Day, we celebrate the wonderful gift of life and renew our resolve to build a culture where life is always revered.”
“Attendees prayed and sang as they held posters that appealed to passersby to defend the right of preborn children and encouraged expectant mothers to choose life for their children, even in difficult circumstances,” Karl noted. “Numerous drivers in passing vehicles waved and honked their support for the event.”
This years’ turnout was larger than the previous year, Karl shared. Over 40 Fremont County residents attended the event, including pastors from local churches, Riverton City Council Member Tim Hancock, and District 34 Wyoming House Representative Tim Salazar.
“As a pro-life legislator,” Salazar commented, “I was happy to join others in our community in affirming the sanctity of life. Whether born or unborn, all deserve the promise of life, liberty & the pursuit of happiness.”
Event organizer, Ginger Bennett, said, “I am thankful that so many are willing to show their support and Stand for Life. Likewise, I am deeply appreciative of President Trump for declaring the National Sanctity of Human Life Day. It is imperative that we recognize how very precious we all are, born and unborn. We desperately need that recognition, not just regarding the issue of abortion, but to correctly address issues such as human trafficking, violent crimes, and end of life care.”
