Around twenty-five, Fremont County outdoor recreation stakeholders met last week to take the first step in developing the Wind River Outdoor Recreation Collaborative (WRORC). This collaboration will work together to find new opportunities and enhance economic development in outdoor recreation as well as open up communication between the different groups.
Fremont County Commissioner Michael Jones and District Manager for State Parks Chris Floyd are spearheading this collaborative locally. Participants ranged from land managers to business owners. Before the meeting, Chris spoke with participants to identify common themes, interests, and concerns from the varied perspectives. This pre-collected data gave a starting place to begin finding the right areas of focus for the group, Michael noted. This initial meeting also worked through the group charter to align and set standards as they move forward.
This collaborative is stemming from Governor Mead’s Outdoor Recreation Task Force (ORTF) that was formed a few years ago. The ORTF made a few recommendations, Michael explained. “One was to create a state director, which is now Dave Glenn. The second was to pull collaboratives together regionally that had all the big land management agencies like BLM, USFS, Game and Fish, State Lands, etc. along with local interest groups and outdoor recreation businesses to focus on the opportunities.”
