One dead, one injured after Wednesday rollover outside of Lander

(Fremont County, WY) – A crash occurring on S. Fork Road/CR-346 near Lander was reported at 3:26 PM on Wednesday, April 20th, which resulted in one death and one injury, according to a Wyoming Highway Patrol (WHP) preliminary report filed by the BIA, released on 4/22/22.

The deceased has been identified as 40-year-old Wyoming resident and passenger of the vehicle, Brian Bearing. The driver’s name/condition was not identified in the report.

According to the report, the vehicle Bearing occupied was eastbound on South Fork Road, and while negotiating a left-hand curve, at approximately mile-post 2.9, it braked and swerved to the left.


The vehicle crossed the center line and exited the roadway on the left.

The driver then overcorrected to the right, abruptly causing the Jeep to trip and roll.

Driver speed was listed as a possible contributing factor, and the report indicates the seatbelt was not in use.

There have been 25 fatalities on Wyoming’s roadways in 2022 compared to 28 in 2021, 22 in 2020, and 47 in 2019 to date.
