Nothing beats a big-hearted draft horse on a summer day…except two of them in a 4th of July parade!

    The Pride of the Parade

Meet Duke and Don, two draft horses owned by the Jacobs family in Lander. These beauties have been getting ready for the walk down Main Street on the 4th of July. Justus Jacobs has been tirelessly preparing them for the day. It takes time to get horses like this ready. With the shoeing alone for these big guys, it can take Justus up to a full day to get them all decked out.

The preparations are all worth it when the end product is these two horses getting to interact with the 4th of July crowd.

Draft horses are commonly misconceived because of their size, but most are some of the sweetest horses you’ll ever come in contact with. “Gentle giants” as they are referred to by those who own them, Duke and Don love children.

They will parade their way right into your heart!

Justus and his family have a strong commitment to the community and are proud to be able to continue some the western traditions in Lander during the 4th.

No carriage rides this year, just the parade appearance, but watch for them at other events this summer. This definitely won’t be the last you’ll see of Duke, Don, and the entire Jacobs family.
