No outside pets permitted at Lander Pet Connection adoption event

(Lander, WY) – The Lander Pet Connection (LPC) is holding an adoption event at the Lander City Park from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM on October 23rd to honor its founder, Syd Miller.

Initially, fully vaccinated, leashed pets were going to be allowed to attend the event with owners, but due to an upper respiratory infection going through the community, event organizers are asking for attendees to leave pets at home, even if fully vaccinated.

“Due to kennel cough going through the community, we will be taking applications for adoption but not have animals at the park,” commented Laner Pet Connection Executive Director Marta Casey.

“We want to slow the spread of kennel cough and are happy to line up adopters to do meet and greets later – and we ask that people please keep pets at home as Lander Valley Animal Hospital noted that even vaccinated pets are getting kennel cough. We will still have cookies and treats for people to take home.”

The majority of dogs with the infection had recently been groomed or boarded, according Dr. Morgan Toye, of the Lander Valley Animal Hospital, and it should be noted that Smith Creek Pet Resort, Lander’s only grooming and boarding facility, shut down last Wednesday to completely chemically disinfect.

Potential adopters are still encouraged to attend, and can fill out applications beforehand to be pre-approved, they just need to have a veterinarian and personal references, and current pets must be spayed/neutered, up to date on vaccines and left at home the day of the event.
