After a pilot program in the fall of 2016, a program that provides flag disposal boxes has gone national, Fremont County Treasurer Scott Harnsberger said in a news release Thursday. Through a partnership between the National Association of Counties, (NACo), the National Flag Foundation, and the National Sheriff’s Association, Harnsberger requested and received a flag disposal box. The box is located in the lobby of the Fremont County Treasurer’s office in Lander.
The idea is to provide a place where residents can drop off their old, tattered and torn flags for a proper, dignified disposal. “This box allows our citizens to conveniently and respectfully recycle their flags. The flags once collected will be delivered to the Veterans of Foreign Wars-Post 954 in Lander for proper disposal or recycle.” said Harnsberger.
In Riverton, a flag disposal box is located outside of the Veterans Hall at 611 East Main Street.
