Oil City is reporting via The Associated Press that a 30-year-old man from Nevada has died in a Wyoming avalanche.
The man was riding a snowmobile near Afton Friday afternoon when he was swept under the snow. The unidentified male was in a party of 5 snowmobilers.
Reports indicate he had deployed an airbag intended to increase survival chances in an avalanche, but was partially buried. It took 10-15 minutes to locate the man.
This was the first avalanche fatality in the United States this winter, however later Friday a Colorado skier was killed in an avalanche and two additional Colorado skiers were killed in an avalanche Saturday.
