    Nebraska man dies in Monday I-80 crash east of Cheyenne

    On April 22, 2019, a fatal crash occurred at milepost 368 on Interstate 80 east of Cheyenne, Wyoming.  Around 6:34 a.m., Wyoming Highway Patrol troopers were dispatched to the area for a motor vehicle collision.

    A 2013 Freightliner was traveling eastbound on Interstate 80 when the Freightliner drifted into the emergency lane.  Two 2006 Freightliners had stopped in the emergency lane due to a mechanical issue on one of the commercial vehicles.  The 2013 Freightliner collided with both of the 2006 Freightliners and then crossed the median and entered the westbound lanes of Interstate 80.  A westbound driver of a 2012 Ford tried to take evasive actions to avoid the 2013 Freightliner by merging into the right lane.  The 2012 Ford collided with a 2005 Kenworth, also headed westbound in the right lane before both vehicles hit the 2013 Freightliner.

    The driver of the 2013 Freightliner has been identified as 36-year-old Kent, Washington resident Vadym Koshman.  Koshman was wearing his seatbelt and transported to the Cheyenne Regional Medical Center for injuries he sustained in the crash.

    The driver of the 2012 Ford has been identified as 21-year-old Sidney, Nebraska resident Jasmine N. Herrera.  Herrera was wearing her seatbelt and was transported to the Cheyenne Regional Medical Center for injuries sustained in the crash.  The passenger in the Ford has been identified as 25-year-old Sidney, Nebraska resident Tyson A. Herrera.  Tyson Herrera was wearing his seatbelt but succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the crash.

    The driver and passengers of all other vehicles were not injured.

    Driver inattention on the part of Koshman is being investigated as a contributing factor.

    This is the 45th fatality on Wyoming’s roadways in 2019 compared to 22 in 2018, 31 in 2017, and 13 in 2016 to date.
