Mountain snow-moisture levels steady this week in Wind River Basin

The snow water equivalent in the Wind River Basin remained unchanged this week at 85 percent of median.

The number is higher than the SWE recorded last year at this time – 83 percent of median – but lower than the SWE in 2020, which was 105 percent of median.

Only two basins in the state had higher SWEs this week: Lower North Platte, at 88 percent of median, and Laramie, at 90 percent of median.

The statewide SWE was 74 percent of median this week.

Officials said the stability of the SWE in the Wind River Basin and all major basins across the state was “due to cooler basin temperatures and scattered mountain snow showers.”
