More grizzlies begin to emerge at Yellowstone National Park

Yellowstone National Park officials say that more grizzly bears are beginning to emerge from hibernation.

The first sighting of a male grizzly was March 8th near Canyon Village.

Early-to-mid March is usually the timeline for male grizzlies to emerge from hibernation. Female grizzly bears with cubs usually emerge in April or May.

Park officials say that people can expect to see grizzly and black bears in the area for the remainder of the season. They remind those in the area to carry bear spray, travel in groups, and to stay at least 100 yards away from bears.

The Jackson Hole News & Guide reported that a Game and Fish Department Warden spotted a bear last Friday near the base of Steamboat Mountain.

Officials say grizzly bears are starting to emerge from hibernation in northwest Wyoming.
