Non-natural cases (accident, homicide, suicide, undetermined) make up 39% of the total Coroner cases (19 more non-natural deaths compared to this time last year)

    • 2 pedestrian deaths
    • 1 ATV death
    • 5 of 6 in vehicles were not wearing safety restraints where they were available

    Drugs & Alcohol:

    • Account for 29% of all Coroner cases and 65% of non-natural deaths.
    • Total cases (natural and non-natural deaths) most common drug related: 35 alcohol, 12 cannabis, 9 methamphetamine, 3 prescription drugs
    • No opiate related deaths so far this year

    Budget Update:

For the 1st fiscal quarter the Coroner’s office is 2% over budget. Contractual services and autopies (31.2%) and deputy overtime (49.9%) are the main causes of overages. This is due mostly to the types of cases and when they occur. I.e., increase in non-natural deaths.
