Middle Schools in Lander and Riverton teaming up for a Make A Wish benefit
A project started with a “Carson Strong” benefit dance last year at Lander Middle School is on tap Friday in Riverton with a new beneficiary.
“We did a combined dance last year with Riverton Middle School to benefit a child with cancer and this year we decided to make it an annual event and it will be hosted by RMS,” said Clair Lane. “This year all the proceeds will go to Make A Wish for several young people in the Riverton area.”
“I think it will be a lot of fun to go over to Riverton this year,” said Lily Hitchcock, who with Lane is a student council member at LMS. “Last year we had a great variety of music with a DJ, mostly pop, and Riverton is handling the music this year.”
When asked how the mutual dance benefit got its start, Lily said another Lander MS student council member wanted to do something for Carson. “We were thinking something small at first, but because he was from Riverton, we ended up with a joint dance,” she said.
The two student council members both said the initial dance was very successful and made a lot of money and that it was a lot of fun for everyone involved.
For this years event, the Lander kids will be bused over to Riverton, said School Counselor Christina Jensen.
As of Wednesday morning, the Lander students had sold 155 tickets and raised $5,775 for the benefit. Only LMS and RMS students can attend.
