Local authorities have not released the name of the person who was shot and killed by a police officer on Saturday, September 21st, 2019 in front of the Riverton Walmart. Family, friends and numerous public posts on social media confirm his identity as Riverton resident Anderson “Andy” Antelope Sr.
Andy’s family and friends peacefully gathered in front of Riverton’s City Hall around 6:30 pm last night for a memorial vigil.

“We are calling for answers, transparency and proper policing,” shared family friend Micah Carpenter. “We are calling for the release of the officer’s name involved, as the Riverton Police Departments Procedure Manual.”
Andy’s nephew Dean Wallowing Bull shared a walk is being planned for Saturday, October 5th, 2019. The exact location and time have not been confirmed. It was mentioned to do it around the same time Andy was shot, 2:00 pm.
The investigation is ongoing and information around the shooting has not been released yet.
Three government agencies have released statements about the police-involved shooting:
- Northern Arapaho Business Council
- Fremont County Attorney Patrick LeBrun & Fremont County Coroner Mark Stratmoen.
Wyoming Department of Criminal Investigation and Fremont County Attorney Patrick LeBrun did not provide a statement about the memorial vigil.
