Memorial Hospital of Converse County CEO Ryan Smith Resigns,
Taking Position with Hospital in Homer, Alaska
The Board of Trustees of Memorial Hospital of Converse County announced today they accepted the resignation of hospital CEO Ryan Smith. Smith plans to leave the hospital at the end of the summer to serve as the CEO at South Peninsula Hospital in Homer, AK. His remaining time at Memorial Hospital of Converse County will be dedicated to ensuring a smooth transition.
According to Memorial Hospital Board Chair Bob Kayser, Smith provided the leadership necessary for Memorial Hospital to stabilize primary care, construct a new Medical Office Building, and most notably expand specialty and surgical services across the region.
Ryan is an extraordinary hospital CEO and we are all sorry to see him leave. This hospital is in a superior position thanks to Ryan and his team. Moving forward, I have every confidence in our senior team, providers, and staff to continue our journey to be the best healthcare organization in Wyoming.
“I worked as the CFO in Homer, Alaska twenty-one years ago and it has always been my dream to return there some day,” Smith said. “I am extremely appreciative of the opportunity and privilege the Memorial Hospital Board of Directors gave me to lead this organization as CEO for nearly eight years. With their dedication and support, I had the privilege to work alongside an outstanding group of board members, employees, physicians and ambassadors.”
Smith added, “I am very proud of our many accomplishments, and this organization and community will always be a special place to Sharon and me. I wish nothing but the best for Memorial Hospital of Converse County and this community.”
Smith, who has only worked in hospitals, started his career in housekeeping at St. Mark’s Hospital in Salt Lake City, UT. He eventually worked his way up through the finance arm of ten hospitals. Smith came to Douglas in December of 2011 after serving as the CEO at Central Peninsula Hospital in Soldotna, Alaska.
The hospital will announce an interim CEO in the coming weeks as they prepare to search for a permanent CEO.
