Meet & mingle with real cowboys! National Day of the Cowboy in Dubois

Dubois is one of the last real old West towns — a charming hidden gem with the authentic feel of the Frontier. Expedia calls Dubois the best place for an escape in Wyoming. Barely an hour from Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Park over a smooth, scenic highway, it’s peaceful here in the Wind River Valley. But there are so many things to do! Especially during the National Day of the Cowboy Celebration the weekend of July 24-26.

National Day of the Cowboy is a day set aside to celebrate the contribution of the Cowboy and Cowgirl to America’s culture and heritage. Join Dubois as they celebrate its western spirit.

Start your fun Friday, July 24th at 7:30 pm. You can see a real Ranch Rodeo of working cowboys at the Clarence Allison Memorial Arena. All your favorite contestants will be there, doing what they love. Barrel Racing, Bronc Riding, Bull Riding, Breakaway and Calf Roping, and Team Roping. Admission to the Rodeo is $10.

The rodeo has events for the little ones including Pee Wee Barrels, Steer, and Mini Bull Riding.

Saddle up! On Saturday, July 25th, there is even more cowboy fun happening. You can watch the Cowboy Parade at 1 pm, savor western recipes, and shop in charming western shops and at the street fair. From 3-5 pm at Ramshorn Liquor there will be music, appetizers, and a Beer, Wine & Whiskey Tasting. Yummy!

Next, let’s head on over to the Chimney Rock Arena located at 5114 US HWY 26. The Cowhide Race begins at 5 pm. It’s just plum crazy and you don’t want to miss it! End your evening with a Barn Dance featuring Jaylan Crossland at 7 pm. There is a $15 cover charge for the dance.

Before you load up the kids and head home, stop by the rodeo grounds for Cowboy Church presented by Mountain Grace at 9 am. Come early at 8 am and enjoy a cup of coffee with a side of delicious biscuits and gravy. A peaceful and meaningful way to end the weekend.
