Medevac Rescue Successful After Backpacker Falls Ill with Appendicitis in Mountains
(Fremont County, Wyo.) – This Thursday, a small group of people had started up into the mountains on the Wind River Reservation for a backpacking trip. The group had traveled up from the St. Lawrence Ranger Station Trail Head. At around 11:00 AM, the party called authorities for assistance when a 19-year-old female that was traveling with the group fell ill with appendicitis.
Two instructors that were traveling with the group did what they could to support the girl and make sure that she remained stable until help arrived, keeping the lines of communication open to emergency personnel as a rescue was organized by Fremont County Sherriff’s, The Wind River Police Department, and Guardian EMS.
At around 11:45 AM, the girl was rescued via medevac and taken to the hospital where she began treatment.
