Mascot Challenge brought communities together (and broke our site)

(Fremont County, WY) – It’s a draw! Both the Arapaho Charter Warriors and the Pathfinder Panthers have won the 2022 Mascot Challenge.

The 2022 Mascot Challenge saw more votes than the previous two years combined and almost 50,000 votes in the Championship round alone, a showdown between two of the smallest schools in the County, Pathfinder and Arapaho Charter.

The sheer volume of votes in the final round caused some problems for the County 10 site and produced an unexpected outcome for the schools involved.

“Our site has been up and down all day,” said County 10 owner Will Hill. “We thought we were prepared after upgrades from last year, but Arapaho Charter and Pathfinder fan bases literally broke our site.”

One of the fun aspects of the Mascot Challenge is the ability to vote multiple times.

“The vote refresh vote cycle seems to have been what did it this year. Our site responded like it was being hacked and just shut down. We had all hands on deck to keep it up, but it was just too much. I finally called the Principals to see what they wanted to do,” said Hill.

Principals Katie Law at Arapaho and Ceatriss Wall at Pathfinder agreed to call it a draw. County 10 will award them both the title of Champion in the 2022 Mascot Challenge.

“They were neck and neck all day long, with thousands of votes flowing in when the site was actually working,” said Hill.

“Arapahoe Charter High School has been overwhelmed and humbled by the support we have seen throughout the mascot challenge,” said Law. “It brought our school-community together in a way that warms our heart. We loved seeing the support and community building that occurred throughout the mascot challenge.”

“It was great to see all of our students coming together to want to win this challenge, and the momentum it got starting on Wednesday,” said Wall. “Their family and friends and community supporting them through the voting efforts to have just a great group of students recognized through this challenge.”

County 10’s annual Mascot Challenge was launched to build community across the County and our team is proud to see that it has taken on a life of its own! We’ll be back next year, with enhanced voting methods to keep the site up!
