Maldonado announced bid for State Superintendent of Public Instruction

(Lander, WY) – On Saturday, April 23rd during the Fremont County Democratic Convention, Fremont County resident Sergio Maldonado, Sr. announced his plans to run for Wyoming State Superintendent of Public Instruction.

Maldonado shared education is foundational for Wyoming students, he believes in local control and plans to address several topics such as student achievement.

“Education should be evenly, equitably with love distributed to every child regardless of age, gender, race, class, ethnicity, (or) sexual orientation,” he said. “That’s what education is about.”

He plans to talk with the people of Wyoming, visit the school districts, and be the “voice of concern, commitment, (and) betterment” for education across the State.

A few areas Maldonado plans to focus on as State Superintendent include early childhood development, parent accountability, post-secondary readiness, and school performance assessments among others.

He believes education should never have been politicized, and he plans to be a role model and leader as State Superintendent.

“I will be that leader that is common sense directed, philosophically intuitive, (and) pragmatically directed for the betterment of our students and teachers.

“Diversity in our Equality State, with our students, our parents, our communities, with our teachers, and all our local education agencies (schools). I represent equality and diversity leadership and will advocate for the equitable distribution of education, I will advocate a greater level of awareness in raising our Wyoming Achievement Scores.

“Under my Leadership education will ‘not be politicized’ to the detriment of our students. Every student will receive a quality education in collaboration with Wyoming teachers, the administration and community input. Wyoming education must not be party-centered but STUDENT CENTERED, STUDENT FOCUSED, with the ultimate goal of affording our students a positive and progressive future.
