Last week the LVHS girls Swim & Dive Team posted victories on two consecutive days. Thursday, the team traveled to Rawlins for a dual meet against Rawlins. On Friday, Lander hosted Worland and Jackson for a triple dual and came out on top against both teams.
Against Rawlins, Lander swept first place in all the swimming events except the 500 freestyle. Lander easily outscored Rawlins 136 to 46 to win the meet. First place finishers were: Katelyn Brinda (200 yard freestyle), Kristen McPherson (200 yard IM), Emily Anderson (50 yard freestyle and 100 yard breaststroke), Lainy Duncan (100 yard fly), and Ashlon Koch (100 yard back and 100 yard freestyle). Many others made personal best times in their events as they work to get faster over the season. Lander also had three divers score points: Skyler Woodruff, Divya Forbis, and Sophie Shearin.
At the home meet on Friday, Lander took first place in seven of the nine individual events and one of the three relays. Individual even winners from Lander were: Lainy Duncan (200 yard freestyle and 100 yard breaststroke), Ashlon Koch (200 yard IM and 100 yard butterfly), Katelyn Brinda (100 yard freestyle), and Lillian Hamilton (500 yard freestyle). Many of the other Lander swimmers also finished in the top five. All of these performances resulted in strong wins over Jackson and Worland.
Divers Skyler Woodruff (second place), Sophie Shearin (fourth place), and Divya Forbis (eighth place) had an excellent meet, each performing eleven different dives. Diving coach Faith Hamilton had this to say, “Skyler, as our only returning diver from last year, performed very well with a personal best on 11 dives. Sophie and Divya put together their first 11 dive lists on Friday and I was very happy with their performances. All three divers have very strong fundamentals that we hope to build here in the next couple of weeks to start performing some new dives.”
All the members of the team are working to qualify for the state meet scheduled for the beginning of November. This week, sophomore Theresa Bautz joined the rank of qualifiers. Lander now has 14 athletes qualified with a few more very close.
