The 2020 3A West Conference Meet was held in Lander and Pinedale last Friday in
order to accommodate all the athletes. Lander, Riverton, and Powell competed at the Bruce
Gresly Aquatic Center, while Sublette County, Green River, Kemmerer, and Lyman were in
Pinedale.
Results from both locations were combined to determine overall winners.
Lander placed third overall in the event behind Green River and Powell. Lander is
coming off Peak Week, their hardest training week of the season, so athletes expected to still be a bit tired during the conference meet. As taper continues, many athletes hope to see significant time drops that will hopefully translate into great success at the state meet.
Top ten finishers for Lander were: Ashlon Koch (second in the 200 yard free and second
in the 500 yard free), Emily Anderson (fifth in the 200 yard IM and sixth in the 100 yard
breaststroke), Lillyan Hamilton (sixth in the 50 yard free and third in the 100 yard free), Skyler Woodruff (third in diving), Lainy Duncan (sixth in the 100 yard fly and fifth in the 100 yard breaststroke), Asha Reid (ninth in the 100 yard fly and fifth in the 100 yard backstroke), Sharon McMahon (tenth in the 100 yard fly), Kristen McPherson (sixth in the 100 yard backstroke), and Josey Johnson (ninth in the 100 yard backstroke).
No new Lander athletes achieved state qualifying times at this meet. There is one more
chance to qualify at Thursday’s appropriately-named Last Chance Meet. Coaches Shawna
Morgan, Tim Hester, and Faith Hamilton are looking forward to bringing as many athletes as they can to the state meet November 6 in Laramie.
