LVHS Students participate in National Walkout as part of Remembrance
This morning at 10:00 am, approximately 100 students and a few teachers and administrators at LVHS held a peaceful remembrance for fellow students massacred at Parkland high school in Florida.
Local law enforcement was present to ensure everyone’s safety while the students and several dozen parents and other individuals exercised their First Amendment rights to free speech and assembly. The school permitted students to take part without consequence as they left their classes and the school building for 17 minutes to commemorate the 17 killed.
Student organizers reached out prior to the walkout to share their purpose as: “We are doing this both to call out our country and its leaders on their inaction in response to the gun violence in our schools and to honor and remember all of the students and teachers who have been killed as a consequence.” Ultimately, the event was focused on the remembrance, healing and the reminder to all to be kind in word and deed.
