    LVFD provides information on Saturday fire in Mcmanus Park

    (Lander, WY) – County 10 was on scene to report on a fire occurring Saturday, April 2nd in the Macmanus Park area of Lander, during the timeframe of an elevated fire risk.

    Lander Volunteer Fire Department Chief Bobby Johnston has provided the following information on the still under investigation fire.

    “At Approximately 4:40 pm on April, 2nd 2022, the Lander Fire Department was dispatched to a reported grass fire in the McManis Park area of the Lander City Park.

    “Fire crews arrived at the scene to approximately half an acre of grass burning in the trees.

    “The fire continually grew to 5.47 acres due to the strong wind and very dry fuels and heavy timber growth.

    “The Lander Fire Department requested assistance from FCFPD Battalion 3 and FCFPD Battalion 10.

    “The roof of a home located above the park on Hillcrest Dr. did catch fire from hot embers, but was quickly extinguished by structure protection crews staged nearby.

    “Fire Crews were on scene for about 4 hours fighting the fire Saturday and returned Sunday morning for additional mopup and safety sweeps of the area.

    “The cause of the fire is actively under investigation and more information may be released as the investigation progresses.

    “We would like to thank the community for supporting all the hard working fire crews during the event and a special thank you to Michelle Motherway and her staff at Mr. D’s for providing much needed food and water to the firefighters.”
