Loop Road will not open this month due to snow depth

Due to current snow conditions, the Washakie Ranger District of the Shoshone National Forest will not be able to open Louis Lake Road (FSR 300), known locally as the Loop Road, this month.

“Because of snow depths, we do not anticipate opening the Loop Road any earlier than the middle of June,” said Washakie District Ranger Steve Schacht. “We know that this may be inconvenient for members of the public who enjoy that area of the Shoshone National Forest; however, keeping the road closed is essential to resource protection. We will be assessing conditions weekly and will open access when conditions permit.”

County 10 has also learned from a U.S. Forest Service employee that recreators can expect a section of the Loop Road to be under construction through part of the summer. This may disrupt traffic for a few days sometime after it opens to traffic.
