    Local man charged with abusive sexual contact involving a minor

    (Cheyenne, WY) – United States Attorney Bob Murray announced today that Robert Lowery, 51, of Fort Washakie, was charged with sexual abuse of a minor and attempted sexual abuse of a minor, according to a release issued by the Department of Justice.

    Lowery appeared for an arraignment hearing on February 25, 2022, before United States Magistrate Judge Kelly H. Rankin and pled not guilty to the charges.

    A trial has been set for April 25, 2022, before Chief United States District Court Judge Scott W. Skavdahl.

    If convicted, Lowery faces thirty years to life imprisonment; five years to life of supervised release; up to a $250,000 fine and a $100 special assessment, per charge.

    A federal district court judge will determine any sentence after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.

    This crime is being investigated by the Wind River Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

    Assistant United States Attorney Christyne M. Martens is prosecuting the case.
