The Riverton City Council approved unanimously a liquor license transfer from the Cedar Bar to First Interstate Bank in Riverton Tuesday night at Riverton City Hall.
City Clerk and Human Resources Director Kristin Watson confirmed to council members that the Cedar Bar had officially closed, and the building was purchased by First Interstate Bank.
The building purchase also included the liquor license, which is valid through the end of March 2019. The Cedar Bar building is located at 413 E. Fremont Ave.
City Councilman Lance Goede inquired if this type of transaction was “typical for banks.” Watson explained that this didn’t happen regularly, but that this was a circumstance in which the bank asked for both the building and permit.
She also told council members that the license can remain inoperable legally for one year. If the license owner asked for a time extension from the city council, they could grant them a one year extension, for a maximum total of two years.
