Lander teen wins top honors at National Western Stock Show [PODCAST]

“I was so excited I gave my calf a kiss on the head,” Lander Valley High School senior Shane Dawson explained.

Dawson is the reserve grand champion from the 2020 National Western Stock Show in Denver in the Catch-A-Calf event.

For the “non-ag” crowd, the National Western Stock Show is referred to as the “Super Bowl for livestock.” It’s been happening in the Mile High City annually since 1906.

In May 2019, Shane and 39 other competitors across the country were given a calf to raise, train, and ultimately show. Dawson named her calf Courthouse Pete after a character in a book she was reading.

The County 10 Podcast caught up with Shane this week to chat about Pete, the Stock Show, and her future goals. Find the podcast on your favorite pod app or click the player below!
