    Lander Middle School Math Counts team heads to Regionals this weekend

    Lander Middle School (LMS) Math Counts team completed their last regular competition for the season on Friday, February 7th. This particular meet also marked the very first competition held in Lander.

    “It was a team effort to make this happen [in Lander],” said LMS Math Counts Coach Ely Sixbey. Assistant Math Counts Coach Scott Olsen, Scott’s son Kephes, Lander Middle School Administration, Fremont County School District #1 Board Member Scott Jensen, student’s parents, the City of Lander, and overall community made this happen. “I can’t thank them enough.”

    The LMS Math Counts team has placed first in four of the five regular-season competitions, Ely noted. They have been competing since November and have done quite well. “They have been competing against big 4A teams like Rock Springs and Evanston.”

    They head to Regionals at Western Wyoming Community College in Rock Springs this coming weekend. Placing in the top three will advance them to State in Laramie on March 7th.
