Lander ladies win Pinedale Nordic Ski Invitational
Information submitted by Matt Herr:
The Lander Valley High School female nordic skiers took first place this weekend at the Pinedale HS Invitational while the Laramie High School male skiers took first in the boys division.
The format the weekend races was a “pursuit” which means that the Friday races determined the Saturday starting times/positions for the Saturday races. Friday was “freestyle” or “skate” while the Saturday races required skiers to use the “classic” style.
Conditions were crisp, the snow was fresh and the White Pine Nordic Ski course was groomed to near perfection. Nearly 200 skiers participated from all over Wyoming and Montana including a number of Wyoming middle school skiers. The longtime Pinedale High School head coach, Holly Thayne organized yet another stellar race with help from a wide range of local volunteers.
Kaylynn Sandall of Lander Valley High School took first place in the Friday competition and Abigail Whitman of Laramie ran away from the competition in Saturday’s race.
Kaleb Simonson from Lander Valley High School continued to dominate the other WHSAA male nordic skiers by taking top honors both days by significant margins.
