Lander football star Conor Carey signs with Bethel College

(Lander, WY) – Lander Valley High School senior Conor Carey signed his letter of intent to play football for Bethel College in North Newton, Kansas this week.

Carey earned first team All-Conference honors for the Tigers last season, helping LVHS return to the playoffs.

The Bethel Threshers compete in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference and finished last season with a perfect 8-0 record before COVID-19 interrupted their schedule.

Conor told County 10 that after several virtual meetings with the coaching staff, he and his family were able to tour the campus in January. He said after great meetings with BC’s Defensive Coordinator, Paul Kempf, he decided to commit. “He reached out to me and really accepted me as a player and a person” Carey explained.

“I want to get bigger,” Conor said about playing at the next level. “I’m a pretty small linebacker. I want to improve my speed and my overall skill. I want to be able to keep working on that and improving so that when I get there, I’m the best I can be.”

Carey plans to major in Science, saying that he hopes to go into athletic training some day.

While he’s excited to continue his athletic and academic careers, he does admit he’ll miss his days as a Lander Tiger. “I’ll miss the coaches and my teammates. It’s going to be hard adjusting to new people and coaches, but I’m excited.” Carey said his best memory on the field at LVHS was beating Riverton every year of his high school career.
