The Lander Chamber of Commerce is hosting a 2020 Candidate Social on Thursday, October 22 at the Lander Community & Convention Center. The Octoberfest influenced event, which will run from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., will provide local and regional beers and heavy hors d’oeuvres.
Lander Chamber Executive Director Owen Sweeney explained, “Rather than duplicate the excellent efforts of the League of Women Voters of Fremont County and their partners in hosting several candidate forums, we’re providing a more casual event at which our members and members of the public can enjoy an evening out while visiting one-on-one with candidates.”
Candidates who have confirmed their attendance at the 2020 Candidate Social include current State House Rep. Lloyd Larsen (R) and his Democrat opponent, Kevin Wilson; District 5 Fremont County Commissioner Jennifer McCarty (R) and two of her opponents, Polly Hinds (D) and Bob Townsend (I); Fremont County School District #1 candidates Taylor Jacobs, Kami Patik-Polenda, Hailey Redden, and Tim Watkins; and City Council Ward 3 candidate Melinda Cox.
To accommodate concerns regarding the COVID-19 virus, only 50 attendees will be permitted to attend, and masks will be provided by the Chamber of Commerce. Candidates and attendees will be spread throughout the Community & Convention Center’s lobby, bar, and (weather permitting) outdoor patio.
“Local politics is too often ignored,” said Sweeney, “and the Chamber is committed to providing more opportunities for our members to engage with current elected officials and those community members who seek to represent us in the future at all levels of government. We’re grateful to our sponsor Fagnant, Lewis & Brinda for helping to make it happen.”
Tickets to the Lander Chamber 2020 Candidate Social ($15 for members, $20 for non-members) can be purchased on the Chamber website at this link.
