Lady Wolverines win the Pinnacle Cup in Pinedale

(Fremont County, WY) – It took four games for the Lady Wolverines to leave Pinedale with a championship in the Pinnacle Cup last weekend. Riverton would outscore their opponents 11-2 including a shutout against Worland with a 4-1 score in the championship game against Buffalo.

Riverton overcame fatigue playing in two games both days of the tournament. Sophomore Madison Fossey said the team left it to mental energy, “playing the amount of games we played this weekend was definitely physically draining. We knew what we had to do to come out on top,” Fossey said.

It was an all around team effort for the Lady Wolverines. Freshman Cami Paskett credited her teammates, “you have to give credit to our defense for shutting out Worland and playing strong defense all weekend. Our keepers had some good saves. Midfielders really started connecting and seeing the field, a few of them started to take shots. Our forwards started to see where to make runs and how to get the ball.”

Head Coach Tanya Santee was also impressed with her team this past weekend. “I was really impressed by the teamwork and improvement over the weekend and excited for the girls to get the win,” Santee said. “It should provide a good spring board for us to work from moving into the rest of the season.”

Riverton will face off against Lander on next Tuesday at the Bill Bush Memorial Stadium.
