Job Corps student achieved best score in Wyoming Microsoft competition; excelled at Lander internship

(Riverton, Wyo.) – A recent achievement by one student at the Wind River Job Corps Center in Riverton shows how well students are being prepared for successful careers there, according to a news release from the Management and Training Corporation, operators of the center.

Quincie Somervold, who is in the office administration program, competed in a Microsoft competition that tested students’ skills in Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. Quincie’s results were outstanding: a perfect score in PowerPoint and 963 out of 1,000 in Word. Office administration instructor Barbette Hernandez says, “That is the best score I’ve ever seen.”

Soon after taking the tests, Quincie received an email stating:

Congratulations! Because of the exceptionally high score you received on your Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) Word 2013 exam and Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) PowerPoint 2013 exam, you have been named Wyoming’s Champion and selected to compete in Certiport’s 2018 Microsoft Office Specialist U.S. National Championship.

Quincie had the highest score in the entire state of Wyoming, the news release states. She took her expertise of these programs to her internship at the Lander Children’s Museum where she was given a number of administrative assignments.

Executive Director at Lander Children’s Museum Brian Reisig said,

“Quincie was an asset to the museum during her time here. She did everything without hesitation from helping customers to building displays. I appreciate her professionalism and wished she were a full-time employee and not just an intern.”
