In loving memory, Diane Denise Russell Brown

Diane Denise Russell Brown passed away after a lengthy illness at Wyoming Medical Center in Casper, Wyoming in the late afternoon of December 20, 2021. She was born January 15, 1957 in St. Joseph, MO to Beverly Elam Russell and George F. Russell.

Diane graduated from St. Joseph Central High School in 1975 and earned an undergraduate degree from the University of Kansas shortly thereafter. She was also interested in and studied gemology and trained as a pilot.

She married Elvin Dale Brown in Long Beach, CA on July 15, 1989. After marrying, they made their home in Casper.

Diane worked at several banks before becoming a travel agent – and she loved to travel. She and Elvin went on many trips around the world, but Diane loved nothing more than snorkeling off the coast of Roatan, Honduras. Diane loved camping, boating, and spending time with her husband Elvin in the mountains. As a lifelong dog lover, she took her beloved dogs traveling whenever possible. She also enjoyed traveling back to St. Joe for class reunions and to enjoy the historic architecture prevalent there.

Diane was known for her amazing memory, even having memories about her second birthday party. Family and friends would call her for help when recalling events or dates from the past.

After receiving a diagnosis of Neuromyelitis Optica (NMO) in 2009, she championed efforts to raise awareness about the disease. She attended multiple Guthy-Jackson Foundation forums which brought hope and strengthened her knowledge of the disorder.

Diane is survived by her sister, Rebecca Roberts (Jerry); her nephews, Casey Roberts (Hillary) and Austin Roberts; and aunt, Shirley Miller. She is also survived by her husband, Elvin Dale Brown, and his siblings: Connie (Jim), Vicky, Joanne (Trevor), Joyce, Jeff, Michelle (Scott), Scott (Heather), Holly (Art), and Shannon and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Beverly and George Russell, and in-laws, Elvin Lee and Helen Brown.

    Diane will be dearly missed.

Services will be held at Bustard & Jacoby Funeral Home in Casper, WY on Wednesday, December 29 at 3:00 pm. A viewing will be held prior to the service at 2:00 pm followed by a luncheon after the service. Burial will take place on Wednesday, December 30 at 1:00 pm at Mount Hope Cemetery in Lander, WY.
