Hockey tournament on Boysen planned in February

(Shoshoni, WY) – The 1st Annual Pond Hockey Tournament is currently scheduled for the weekend of February 27th-28th at Boysen Marina. This inaugural tournament is only for the younger kiddos – Mites (8U) and Mini-Mites (6U).

Currently, Pinedale and Riverton have teams signed up for the weekend. There is still time for more teams to join. The fee is $200 and registration can be done on the Riverton Ice Hockey Association’s website.

You may be wondering where the “pond hockey” tournament name came from since it’s happening on Boysen Reservoir. According to one of the organizers, KaCee Bailey, the Riverton hockey team is often referred to as the “pond hockey team.”

Pending how this first tournament goes, it could be opened up for a wider range of ages. The older kids’ schedules are a little complicated, KaCee explained. She is also working on getting this tournament sanctioned by the state.

Since this is happening outside and there is plenty of room for social distancing – everyone is invited. It free to attend with the exception of the Wyoming State Park fee.

KaCee also shared the teams also do not normally get to have a tournament locally, so this would be a great opportunity to support them.

This outdoor tournament is also dependent on how the weather is at the end of February. You can find the latest updates on the Facebook event page.
