(Riverton, WY) – Last week, County 10 reported on a public open house put on by the city of Riverton Public Works Department that discussed the upcoming Hill Street Improvement Project starting early May.

According to an updated notice from Public Works Director Kyle Butterfield, South Hill Street between West Main and Riverview Road will be closed to through traffic starting May 3, 2021 for approximately 2 months.

This closure will allow for much needed road reconstruction and utility replacement through the corridor. The road may have additional brief closures to support the final placement of asphalt and concrete.

These closures will be communicated through the city’s Facebook page and website.

The city encourages the public to plan for alternate routes of transportation during this construction.

The Fix Our Roads Citizen Committee (FORCC) prioritized the use of 1% optional tax funds towards this project in 2019. Included in the project will be sections of full-depth street repair, curb and gutter replacement, installation of a sewer line, and an upgrade to the water transmission line.

“We are very excited to get this project underway and completed in 2021,” said Butterfield. “We appreciate the community’s patience and cooperation as we make these necessary improvements.”

Established in 2013, the Fix Our Roads Citizens Committee serves as an unpaid advisory committee to the City Council of the City of Riverton. The purpose of the Committee is to review and evaluate the capital improvement needs of the City, prioritize projects, and make recommendations to the City Council through City staff for the expenditure of funds from the 1% general use excise tax as approved by voters; which is for infrastructure projects related to streets, roads, bridges, water and sewer utilities.

For any further information regarding the project, contact the Public Works Director, Kyle Butterfield, at 307-856-2227.
