Have you met the new general and endovascular surgeon?

On January 10, 2019, SageWest Health Care announced the addition of their newest surgeon,

Dr. Claude Minor, M.D. out of Louisiana.

Dr. Minor first began working with SageWest in May of 2018 when his good friend, Alan Daugherty (former CEO of SageWest) reached out to recruit him to Wyoming.

“Alan and I go back a long time. We’ve been good friends for 32 years,” expressed Dr. Minor. “In fact, when I get married this August, he’s going to be the best man at my wedding.”

In his career as a general surgeon, he’s worn a lot of hats. While most doctors specialize in one area, Dr. Minor has more than 30 years of experience with surgical care including endovascular surgery, trauma, and critical care, cancer care surgery and general surgery.

“I was glad to hear that Claude was wanting to work at a rural hospital,” expressed Alan Daugherty. “Typically, it can be difficult to recruit a general surgeon who is also an expert in critical care. Trauma care is a necessity in a rural community, which makes Claude a tremendous asset to Fremont County.”

When asked about his experience in trauma care, Dr. Minor explained, “If you’re shot in a hunting accident, or in a bad car accident, the larger hospitals are several hours away. It is so important that we be able to treat you and take care of you.”

I have taken care of several people who have been kicked by horses or run over by horses. Guys riding bulls, they fall off the bull, the bull stomps them and cracks their pancreas in half. That was the kind of things I dealt with down in Louisiana. I’m excited to be able to apply that experience here.

In addition, SageWest Health Care is happy to report on Dr. Minor’s mark interest in vascular surgery.

We have a lot of smokers in this area who are at high risk of getting a peripheral vascular disease. As an endovascular surgeon, Dr. Minor can help these men and women right here in Fremont County. With the new Cath Lab SageWest is putting in, they will soon have a state of the art Cath facility, providing a national standard of care.

Also good for Fremont County is Dr. Minor’s passion for “limb salvage” using vascular care. During his career, he saved the limbs of over 350 of his patients.

I love helping people with leg pain or diabetics with wounds. We want to avoid limb loss and we have some sophisticated ways of doing that.

Dr. Minor and his wife are thrilled to be living in Fremont County. So much so that he’s actively trying to recruit another doctor he knows to our area.

It feels absolutely wonderful to be here!

He is one of several new physicians to begin practicing in Fremont County this year as SageWest continues to grow healthcare services.

Dr. Minor is seeing patients at Wind River Clinic in Riverton, with surgeries to be performed at both Riverton and Lander SageWest campuses. For an appointment, call 857-3488.
