After passing the Wyoming House and Senate, Governor Mark Gordon has signed the State Amphibian Bill, which declares the Blotched Tiger Salamander as Wyoming’s official state amphibian.
Students from Lander’s Pathfinder High School presented the bill and lobbied on behalf of Wyoming’s only native salamander. The students had the chance to visit with Governor Gordon in Cheyenne and sit in on the Wyoming Legislature.
Pathfinder student Alyssa Woody told Cheyenne’s KGWN News Channel 5, “I am so excited. I am so ready for this to be over so that I can say I did that. I was a part of that. Instead of, oh I’m doing that.”
Another student, Kenzie Harrison, said, “I felt like, just get through school and then, afterward, I will have the power that I want. But I kind of learned that we can change a lot more than we think that we can.”
Students and staff were on hand in Cheyenne for the Governor’s bill signing and they brought a special guest, “Sarah” the salamander also sat in on the event.
