#getoutside: “I only have to outrun you”
#getoutside, a series focusing on our County 10 outdoor lifestyle, is brought to you by Wind River Outdoor Company in Lander.
“I only have to outrun you”
That’s the punchline to a popular bear joke that still gets a forced smile from you when Uncle Ty repeats it for the umpteenth time in as many years.
But, imagine that you’re out on a run with local mountain runner and racer Gabe Joyes, who only last month knocked out an ankle-twisting, high altitude 50 mile race in a little over 8 hours. Given his running abilities; the size of this bear track next to his size 9’s, and your expanding waistline: The joke loses a little something.
When ‘fresh’ isn’t good
Joyes snapped this pic of a fresh track yesterday while out for one of his training jaunts. You’re hoping we’ll tell you he was on Union Pass up above Dubois, or huffing it through the Yellowstone ecosystem. Nope. This photo was snapped near the Little Popo Agie on Limestone Mountain Road. “There were about 40 yards of prints in the mud until in went back into the willows,” shared Joyes. Will this alter your training routine? “I guess I’ll start carrying my bear spray again.”
Okay Google…Black or Grizzly?
We think Griz. But, you can certainly apply the Palmisciano Line Method for ensuring a correct identification. While you’re measuring, we’ll start back and connect with you at the LB. Let us know what you find out.
