The Wyoming Game and Fish Commission has decided to not hold a grizzly bear hunt in 2019.
The decision comes after a bill passed by the Wyoming Legislature this winter that authorized state wildlife officials to hold a hunt.
The Jackson Hole News & Guide reports the commission voted unanimously against the hunt this year, however.
Commissioner Patrick Crank said he worried that if the state authorized a bear hunt, hunters could still face federal prosecution.
It’s estimated that there are 700 grizzlies around Yellowstone National Park.
